THE PLANETS
PLANETS IN ASTROLOGY
Hello, this is Rubi and welcome to my blog!!
When we want to understand the influences of the stars on the personality of our Sun sign, we have to know which is our ruling planet.
Astrology considers ten planets: Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. Some astrologers also consider the celestial object Chiron in their readings. Each planet occupies a certain zodiac sign, giving it certain strengths and weaknesses.
The planets are the active principle of Astrology. Since planetary positions vary from day to day, the planets make each birth chart unique. The positions they occupy on the chart are defined from the perspective of Earth, the place from which they are observed.
Inner Planets
The Greek civilization only knew of the five inner planets, which are visible to the naked eye: Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn. These, along with the Sun and the Moon, were called "wanderers" (in Greek, planetes). These are considered personal planets: they are close to consciousness and represent aspects such as "love" or "desire".
Outer Planets
The outer planets, being much further from Earth, are not visible to the naked eye: Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. They are also called "modern planets" or trans-Saturnian planets.
In Astrology, these celestial bodies are considered non-personal, "external" or "transpersonal" planets, since each one of them is co-regent of a certain sign, not substituting its traditional ruler. They indicate energies such as transformation, evolution and regeneration.
- Aries - Mars
- Taurus - Venus
- Gemini - Mercury
- Cancer - Moon
- Leo - Sun
- Virgo - Mercury
- Libra-Venus
- Scorpio - Pluto (ruling planet in Modern Astrology), Mars (co-ruling planet)
- Sagittarius - Jupiter
- Capricorn - Saturn
- Aquarius - Uranus (ruling planet in Modern Astrology), Saturn (co-ruling planet)
- Pisces - Neptune (ruling planet in Modern Astrology), Jupiter (co-ruling planet)
Traditionally, the energies of the planets were seen as character traits, or as forces that give rise to certain events. In more recent times, the planets have come to be seen in astrology as archetypes or impulses based on the behavior of people, and the transiting planets (which move through space day after day), as activators.
For Astrology, the planets do not cause events, representing, instead, an inclination. For example, transiting Mars seems to push us into impulsive behavior or conflict, and Neptune spreads a veil of illusion that can hide the true nature of events and things.
Each planet has its domain and symbolism. Modern Astrology also considers the newly discovered planet Chiron in its astrological chart. In Astrology all signs are Masculine or Feminine.
